Life Goal 17 – Read 1000 books

I need some help.  I have started working on my list of Life Goals.  Things I want to accomplish before I die.  If I accomplish 10% of them I’ll consider it no small feat.

One of them is to read and catalog 1000 books.  And no, Dr. Suess books don’t count.  (To bad, I could be up to 7 already.) So if I read at least 25 books/year I could finish my goal in my 70’s.  Not that I would stop, I just want to bite it off in chewable chunks and know I can reach my goal.

I have added the ones that I remember reading. It’s a pretty short list.  So I have started to put books on the “to read” list.  I would like to have a good selection of business books.  I also have some good fantasy and adventure books in there so I can kind of keep up with Jonathan.  He reads books like Eragon in a day or two.  And I have some of the standard business books but I really need some input here.

Please leave me a comment and let me know what books you recommend.  I give you my word that if you’ll go as far as suggesting a book you have read I’ll go as far as reading it.

If you haven’t already read them, The Four-Hour Workweek and The Power of Less are two good businessy-related ones. As far as fiction goes, it’s hard to say–depends on your tastes, I guess. You should join Goodreads or Shelfari, that’s a good way to get recommendations from people you know.

I have a similar goal of 1000 books.  I first created categories (sales, marketing, fantasy, science fiction, family, sports, religion, philosophy, etc.).  Then I created a spreadsheet with tabs by category and a summary page by type.  It has worked well for over 15 years.  It tells me how many I have by category so I can achieve the goal. However, now I’m looking for a database so data entry is easier–prefer an iPhone one.  Anyone found one?
