So I started a new health/fitness/diet program. I’m mostly making it up by myself but it goes something like this: Get up at 5:50AM and exercise, wait for at least an hour after exercising to eat breakfast, eat normal food but try to avoid candy and snacking on carbs, make sure I stop eating for the day at 6:30PM.
So far it’s working. I have lost about 2 pounds each week. And I have been Continue reading

You know there are a few good things about being unemployed. Today we all went (the family) to the canyon to have a picnic because it was just too hot in the valley. 93° today. It ended up raining on our little hike and we quickly retreated to the car just in time to almost miss one of the worst downpours since I was in the tropics. It was pretty fun and it managed to cool us down to comfortable. Then we went on a little ride to see an old steam engine. Jonathan and Cari loved it. and since we were so close, we decided to head on over for some Kamas cones. Every time I see them, I can’t believe how much ice cream they put on those things without breaking the cone. Very few things match the simple blissfulness of a Kamas cone. I Couldn’t have done that during a typical day at the office now could I have?

Ahh the glory days. Throw the bags in the back of the Corona. Load up all of Dave’s guns. Stop by Chucks to make sure we are gunna eat well (Cherry Coke Burgers, Welch’s, Dogs, always a box of Day-olds, and of course a big bag of licorice). For some reason, we always seemed to take several cars and leave several hours apart. Don’t know why. Stop by Wally-world to stock up on ammo. Hit the dirt roads looking for things to run over. Race down the pony express trail at 70+ mph (even if there is no one to race). Maybe stop to chase the sheep, yell Istanbul, or watch the kangaroo rats jump over bullets with their lightning fast reflexes. (No really. They do jump the bullets if you try to shoot them.) Arrive at camp and unload the machetes or cutting tool de jour. Pile up as much wood as daylight will allow. (or moonlight or flashlight). ok, pile up as much wood as inhumanly possible. Light it and stand back. Sit on THE Table and enjoy the view. Yeah, that table sure did hold a lot of memories. So when Mike and I found that it had been desecrated by some Keystone drinking bastards last week, there seemed only one dignified path for the table to take. It has now been sanctified by fire.

Well Christmas was pretty good. We made our own Christmas dinner this year. I think that’s only the second time we’ve done our own. We also invented this really really yummy pumpkin cheese cake. It was so good that I made another one last night and I will probably make another one tonight just to cover for the one that I’m sure is going to get all eaten before anyone else gets to try it. I got a DVD player for Christmas. Too bad the only DVD we have so far is Thomas and Friends – Make Someone Happy. But now I know all the names of all those crazy trains. Thomas, Edward, Gordon, James, Percy, Oliver, Henry, Toby, Donald, Douglas, Ben, Bill, Duck, Diesel, Daisy, Boco, Herald the Helicopter, and Terence the Tractor. Jonathan knows how to get through the menu on the DVD and start it over when it finishes. So we watch it at least 6 times a day.

About two months ago, I forgot to bring a quarter or two to buy a Coke here at work and there was no one around that day to lend me one. So I had to go the whole day without Coke. (So sad fo yu) Then I guess I had a pretty busy weekend and didn’t seem to get a chance to go get one then either. So Monday comes and I am walking past the break room and naturally check my pocket for a quarter. Then I realize, “It’s been three whole days since I had a Coke. Hmmmm, no headaches all weekend, why not see how long I can go without one, and it may save me a buck or two without having to dial that lame 10-10-220.” So I did it. I started a Coke free diet. Then I thought, “why stop there?” I cleaned out my candy box (eating as I went of course). Hadn’t had a Coke til last week Jon buys me a new Vanilla Coke and just gives it to me. I figured, “Hey, it’s been a while, I can try it and just see how I feel.” Man what a drag. Headache all day, icky sluggish feeling for a while, no real caffeine rush or even a sugar rush for that matter. So now I’m off Coke. If I make it til New Years, I can give my dad crap about giving up Dr. Pepper.

Friday night, I had to leave work early. So the Coke man shows up to stalk the machine after I leave and my buddies decide it’s time to end the never ending conflict over the amount of Coke and Diet Coke in the machine. Well, turns out that they struck a deal with him, we give him an undisclosed amount of money and he stocks our private fridge chuck full of Coke. Here’s the thing, When I left Friday, I was just starting a Coke free period that I like to do from time to time. (mainly just to convince myself that I’m really not addicted) So after my looong weekend of fighting headaches and mentally preparing for the onslaught of temptation (to drink Coke that is) that usually can be found at my place of work, I show up today to find a seemingly endless supply of the life giving stuff. Nice timing huh?
